Privacy Policy

1. Introduction

Krewe of Cleopatra, Inc. (“the Krewe,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) respects your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect through our website at kreweofcleopatra.org (the “Site”), how we use and share it, and the choices you have. It applies to our members, guests, and website visitors, and to the membership, dues, store, event, and text-message services we offer through the Site.

By using the Site, creating or accessing a member account, joining or renewing membership, making a purchase, or participating in our programs, you agree to the practices described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site or our services. This Policy works together with our Terms and Conditions.

2. Information We Collect

We collect the following categories of personal information.

Information you give us. When you create an account, join or renew membership, make a purchase, buy event tickets, enter a raffle or court drawing, fill out a form, or contact us, you may provide:

  • Your name and contact details, including email address, mailing address, and phone or mobile number.
  • Membership and participation information, such as your membership year, dues and package selections, rider or parade information, and court or drawing entries.
  • Order and transaction history, including the items you purchase and any store credit issued to you.
  • Account login credentials.
  • Any other information you choose to provide in a form, message, or communication with us.

Payment information. When you pay online, your payment-card information is collected and processed directly by our third-party payment processors, Braintree (a PayPal service) and PayPal, under their own terms and privacy policies. The Krewe does not store your full payment-card number.

Text-message (SMS) information. If you take part in our text-message program, we collect your mobile number, your opt-in and consent, and program activity such as verification and opt-out requests. See the Text Message (SMS) Program section below.

Information collected automatically. When you visit the Site, we and our service providers may automatically collect certain technical information, such as your IP address, browser and device type, pages viewed, and the dates and times of your visits. Some of this is collected through cookies and similar technologies, as described in the Cookies and Similar Technologies section below.

3. How We Use Your Information

We use your personal information to:

  • Process and fulfill your orders, payments, memberships, dues, event tickets, raffle entries, and court drawing entries.
  • Administer your membership and account, and provide member features and benefits.
  • Operate our parade, events, and drawings, including logistics such as throw and merchandise delivery or pickup.
  • Provide account security, including login verification and optional two-factor authentication.
  • Communicate with you about your account, purchases, membership, events, and Krewe news, by email and, if you have opted in, by text message.
  • Provide customer service and respond to your questions and requests.
  • Operate, maintain, secure, and improve the Site.
  • Comply with our legal, tax, accounting, and record-keeping obligations, and enforce our Terms and Conditions.

4. Cookies and Similar Technologies

Cookies are small files stored on your device that help a website function and remember your preferences. The Site uses the following categories of cookies and similar technologies:

  • Strictly necessary. Cookies required for the Site to work, such as those that keep you logged in, maintain your shopping cart and checkout session, protect against fraud and abuse (including our security firewall and form spam protection), support two-factor authentication, and remember your cookie preferences. These are always active because the Site cannot function properly without them.
  • Functional. Cookies and storage used by member-facing services on the Site, such as our live-chat feature and our accessibility tool, which remember your preferences for those features.

We do not use cookies for advertising, and we do not currently use the Site to track your activity across other websites for marketing. We do not knowingly permit third parties to collect personal information about your online activities over time and across different websites through the Site for their own advertising.

Do Not Track. Some browsers offer a “Do Not Track” signal. Because there is not yet a common industry standard for how to interpret these signals, the Site does not currently respond to Do Not Track signals.

Managing cookies. Most web browsers let you refuse or delete cookies through their settings. If you block strictly necessary cookies, some parts of the Site, such as logging in or checking out, may not work properly. You can also review or change your choices at any time using the Cookie Preferences link at the bottom of this page.

5. Text Message (SMS) Program

The Krewe offers an optional text-message (SMS) program, operated on our behalf by our service provider, Our Krewe Logistics, to keep members informed.

How you opt in. You opt in by providing your mobile number and affirmatively checking the SMS consent checkbox during membership signup or renewal at kreweofcleopatra.org, or through the phone-verification prompt in the member area. Your consent is recorded. Only members who have opted in receive messages. Consent to receive text messages is not a condition of membership or of any purchase.

What we send. Messages may include parade-day logistics (such as lineup times, staging locations, and schedule changes), dues and membership reminders, event and ticket announcements, and account security or verification messages (such as one-time passcodes).

How to stop. You can opt out at any time by replying STOP to any message. You may also reply UNSUBSCRIBE, CANCEL, END, or QUIT. Reply HELP for help, or contact [email protected]. Message and data rates may apply, and message frequency varies.

Your mobile information is not shared or sold. Mobile information, including your mobile number and your text-message opt-in and consent, will not be shared with third parties or affiliates for marketing or promotional purposes. We share this information only with the service provider that operates the text-message program on our behalf (Our Krewe Logistics and its messaging-platform provider) and with the mobile carriers needed to deliver messages to you. Text-message opt-in data and consent will not be shared with any third parties.

6. How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We share personal information only in the following ways:

  • With service providers. We share information with the vendors who help us run the Krewe and the Site, and who are permitted to use it only to provide services to us. These include our logistics and text-message provider (Our Krewe Logistics), our payment processors (Braintree, a PayPal service, and PayPal), our email delivery provider, our website hosting, content-delivery, and security providers, our form spam and bot-protection provider, our live-chat provider, and our accessibility-tool provider.
  • For legal reasons. We may disclose information when we believe in good faith that it is necessary to comply with the law or a legal request, to enforce our Terms and Conditions, to protect the rights, property, or safety of the Krewe, our members, or others, or to prevent fraud or abuse.
  • In connection with the organization. If the Krewe undergoes a reorganization, merger, or dissolution, member information may be transferred as part of that process, subject to this Policy.

Please review the Text Message (SMS) Program section above for the additional protections that apply to your mobile information.

7. Third-Party Services

Some features of the Site are provided by third parties, including our payment processors and the service providers listed above. When you use those features or follow links to third-party sites, your information is handled under those third parties’ own terms and privacy policies. We encourage you to review them. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of websites we do not operate.

8. Data Retention

We keep your personal information for as long as it is needed to provide membership and services to you, operate the Krewe, and meet our legal, tax, accounting, and record-keeping obligations. When information is no longer needed, we dispose of it securely. Records of text-message consent and opt-out are retained for at least five years.

9. Data Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and physical safeguards to protect your personal information, including encrypted (SSL/TLS) connections, a website security firewall, access controls, and payment processing that keeps full card numbers off our systems. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot guarantee absolute security. Please help protect your account by keeping your login credentials confidential.

10. Your Choices

You have choices about your personal information:

  • Account information. You can review and update much of your account and membership information by logging in to the member area, or by contacting us.
  • Email. You can opt out of promotional emails by using the unsubscribe link in those messages or by contacting us. We may still send you non-promotional messages about your account, purchases, or membership.
  • Text messages. You can opt out of the text-message program at any time by replying STOP, as described above.
  • Cookies. You can manage cookies through your browser settings, as described above.

If you would like to access, correct, or delete personal information we hold about you, please contact us using the information below, and we will respond as required by applicable law.

11. Children’s Privacy

The Site and our services are intended for adults. We do not direct the Site to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child under 13 has provided us personal information, please contact us and we will take appropriate steps to delete it. Membership and participation are subject to the age requirements in our Terms and Conditions.

12. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date below and post the updated Policy on the Site. Your continued use of the Site after changes are posted means you accept the updated Policy. Please review this Policy periodically.
